Learning Without Walls. Homeschool Tours Built for Your Family.

Homeschool Field Trips Built by a Homeschool Mom

I’m Canden, COO of DC by Foot, and I have homeschooled my children since kindergarten. Every EducaTours homeschool program reflects what I ,and thousands of homeschool families like yours, actually need from an educational experience outside the home.

Most tour companies add a “homeschool” tab to their website and call it a day. We built our homeschool programs differently because the person who designed them has been in your shoes since day one.

I have navigated state portfolio requirements (though I use an umbrella now!), planned curriculum around travel, coordinated co-op field trips, and figured out how to make a museum visit count toward a transcript. I built these programs to solve the exact problems I faced as a homeschool parent and I have added everything I wished existed when I looking for experiences like this.

Homeschool education thrives outside the classroom. We are your partner for making the world your curriculum with the documentation, flexibility, and personalization that homeschool families actually need.

Whether you’re a single family, a small co-op, or a larger micro-school group, we have a format that fits.

Scheduled Group Tours

Join other families on our regularly scheduled educational tours. Groups are kept small so your child gets genuine attention, not a crowd experience. Perfect for families who want the social element of learning alongside others.

Great for: Individual families looking for a structured group experience with built-in socialization.

Private Family & Co-op Tours

Book a private experience designed entirely around your family or co-op. You set the pace, we build the itinerary around your curriculum goals, your students’ grade levels, and your specific areas of study. Particularly well-suited for co-ops with students spanning multiple ages as we know how to pitch content to a mixed group.

Great for: Co-ops of any size, families with students at different grade levels, or anyone who wants full flexibility.

Optional Virtual Pre-Tour Sessions

Before the visit, one of our educators meets with your students live online to introduce key vocabulary, historical context, and learning objectives. It primes students to get more out of the tour itself and gives you something to build a lesson around in the days before you travel.

Great for: Families who want to integrate the tour into a broader unit of study.

We know the paperwork is real. Whether you report to a state portfolio reviewer, an umbrella school, or maintain your own transcript records, you need documentation that holds up.

Every EducaTours homeschool booking includes a Learning Plan that outlines learning objectives, skills practiced, content areas covered, and estimated instructional hours. It’s written to meet state portfolio requirements, umbrella school reporting standards, and transcript documentation needs — so you’re not starting from scratch when you get home.

Not sure if it will meet your state’s specific requirements? Email us and I will take a look personally.

Private tours are priced by group size and destination — contact us for a custom quote and we’ll put something together that fits your family or co-op’s budget.

Not sure where to start? Tell us your students’ ages, your general curriculum focus, and your destination of interest and we’ll suggest the best format for your group.

If your question isn’t here, email us at info@dcbyfoot.com — either me or a member of our education team will get back to you.

Do you accommodate students at different grade levels in the same group?

Absolutely! This is one of the things we do best. Our guides are experienced at delivering stories to mixed-age groups, and our private and co-op tours are specifically designed with multi-level families in mind. When you inquire, just let us know the ages and grade levels in your group and we’ll build the experience accordingly.

Can the learning plan be customized to match our specific curriculum?

Yes. If you’re using a specific curriculum – Charlotte Mason, classical, unit studies, a packaged curriculum, or something entirely your own – tell us when you book and we’ll align the learning plan to what you’re already teaching. The goal is for the tour to feel like a natural extension of your school year, not a detour from it.

I use a mix of unschooling, Charlotte Mason, Socratic and obviously, world-schooling! But through the years, I have tried a lot of different styles and curriculums.

Is the documentation accepted for umbrella school reporting?

Our learning plans are written to meet common umbrella school and portfolio review standards, and most families find they can use them as-is. That said, requirements vary by state and umbrella school. If you want to be sure before you book, send us your specific requirements and I will review them personally and let you know exactly what we can provide.

What is the minimum group size for a private co-op tour?

There is no minimum. We work with individual families all the way up to large co-op groups. Pricing scales with group size, so a single family and a co-op of 20 families will receive different quotes but both are welcome. Reach out and we’ll find something that works for your budget.

Do you offer payment plans for families? We understand that educational travel is a significant investment for homeschool families. Payment plan options are available for private bookings. Contact us when you inquire and we’ll discuss what works for your situation. We’d rather find a way to make it work than have budget be the reason a family misses out.

Can we combine a tour with other homeschool activities or a broader travel itinerary?

Absolutely. Many of our homeschool families build a full educational trip around their EducaTours experience pairing it with museum visits, historical sites, or other activities before or after the tour.

We’re happy to recommend complementary experiences at each destination and can help you think through a multi-day itinerary that maximizes the educational value of your trip.
